April 18, 2012

Wednesdays have become my favorite days.  They are days I try to give to myself.  I try not to be a tea lady on Wednesdays, and try very hard to stay home, not do errands, just do pleasant things.  In short, I putter.  : )  It is not even noon, and it has been a lovely day already.

I fixed an early breakfast for a dear friend, trying a banana muffin recipe from Gluten-Free Baking Classics by Annalise G. Roberts.  Yum.Yum.YUM!  ( If you must be gluten free, this cookbook I cannot recommend enough! )  The muffins turned out perfect and were happily consumed.  I just devoured another with a cup  of tea.  I was going to try to enjoy it sloooowly.... Ha!

Millie and I walked out to my garden to check on the progress.  Now that we're finally in the growing season, I must check on babies at least two or three times a day.  Words of encouragement must be whispered, a weed plucked, a little water sprinkled on seedlings in the tiny greenhouse.

See those containers?  Those are those big containers organic greens come in from Costco or so many groceries these days.  I had a flash of brilliance one day two months ago, when I reached for the kitchen scissors... to chop them into tiny bits... since we can't recycle them here......  Why not use them to start seeds in?  They work perfectly!  I'm so tickled.  I fill them up 2/3 or so with potting soil, tuck in seeds, add a little water, cover and stack in my sitting room.  (At this time of year I have little pots and flats of soil everywhere.  My sweet husband is used to it.)   As soon as the seedlings begin to sprout I move them to my greenhouse.

Sometime in the next day or so, I'll use a fork and pop little clumps of greens out and into a garden bed which awaits.

This afternoon, I will sew.  (Insert happy sigh here...)  I have a special project I've been holding close to my heart for some time.  I'm not quite ready to share, but I will soon.

Thank you for visiting.  Have a lovely day!

  1. Hello Dori, what a delightful blog! And the name is so sweet.

I've been wanting to try gluten free recipies, not because of any illness, but because I think it is the right thing to do. But hubby is never on board for the healthy stuff. I might just have to slip it in there and see if he notices.

Thank you so much for leaving such comforting comments on my blog yesterday. It was very much appreciated.

I hope your day is delightful!

  2. How did I miss this post, Dori dear? You must have slipped out of my bloglovin' list somehow.

What a lovely post of your lovely day...I spy our reading circle book next to that scrumptious-looking muffin, and the seedlings are just so hopeful.

Thank you for the glimpses of domesticity...

  3. Hi Dori -- Thanks for your lovely blog. I actually found you by following a post you made on another gal's blog about your fence. I had been looking and looking for a way to have a deer-proof yet charming fence for my country garden, and FINALLY I found yours! Would you please consider doing a post about your fence? It is lovely and functional, and I'd love to hear details about its construction. Thanks so much! Tamara (tsfairish at sbcglobal dot net)

  4. Oh Dori...this fabric is so beautiful to me!!!! I can't wait to see what you create with it ~ Thank you for your sweet generosity for Julie...the goodness will certainly return to you!!! Thank you angel ~ have a wonderful week!! hugs and love, Dawn
